Zero phase-lag synchronization through short-term modulations
نویسنده
چکیده
Considering coupled phase model oscillator systems with non-identical time delays, we study the possibility of close-to-zero phaselag synchronization (ZPS) without frequency depression (FD). FD refers to nearly vanishing frequencies of the synchronized oscillators (in comparison to the intrinsic frequencies); its absence is crucial for interpretations related to brain dynamics. Discussing an extension of the Kuramoto model, it is demonstrated that ZPS without FD may arise by allowing for dynamical parameters. Two models are presented: one is based on shortterm modulation of the delays, while the other assumes static delays but short-term modulation of coupling strengths. We also speculate on possible relevance of such mechanisms with respect to assembly formation by relating the frequency of the synchronized oscillation to recently proposed pattern frequency bands.

Phase-lag synchronization in networks of coupled chemical oscillators.
Chemical oscillators with a broad frequency distribution are photochemically coupled in network topologies. Experiments and simulations show that the network synchronization occurs by phase-lag synchronization of clusters of oscillators with zero- or nearly zero-lag synchronization. Symmetry also plays a role in the synchronization, the extent of which is explored as a function of coupling stre...
متن کاملComparison of Different Methods of Oestrus Synchronization on Reproductive Performance of Farahani Sheep in Iran
This experiment was carried out on 123 Farahani ewes from a herd in Delijan city in Markazi province of Iran to determine the best short-term method for oestrus synchronization. Ewes were divided into five experimental groups randomly: group 1) use of controlled intervaginal drug release devices (CIDR) for 7 days with intramuscular (IM) injection of PGF2α on zero day and IM injection of 500 IU ...
متن کاملMemory modulation by weak synchronous deep brain stimulation: a pilot study.
Zero-lag phase synchronization of EEG activity has been reported to be a central mechanism accompanying long-term memory formation. In this pilot study, we examined the effects of synchronous low-amplitude stimulation of the rhinal cortex and the hippocampus in eleven temporal lobe epilepsy patients. The impact of in-phase stimulation (zero lag) on long-term memory encoding of words was contras...
متن کاملSelf-Organized Near-Zero-Lag Synchronization Induced by Spike-Timing Dependent Plasticity in Cortical Populations
Several cognitive tasks related to learning and memory exhibit synchronization of macroscopic cortical areas together with synaptic plasticity at neuronal level. Therefore, there is a growing effort among computational neuroscientists to understand the underlying mechanisms relating synchrony and plasticity in the brain. Here we numerically study the interplay between spike-timing dependent pla...
متن کاملWhen Long-Range Zero-Lag Synchronization is Feasible in Cortical Networks
Many studies have reported long-range synchronization of neuronal activity between brain areas, in particular in the beta and gamma bands with frequencies in the range of 14-30 and 40-80 Hz, respectively. Several studies have reported synchrony with zero phase lag, which is remarkable considering the synaptic and conduction delays inherent in the connections between distant brain areas. This re...
